Ivy

Ivy winds through my ribs

             sprouting non-existent leaves—

this plant that grows inside me

is a weed but I nourish it

like a sapling.

I know its vines are old and clawing

             resistance too much effort.

It has already crept up my throat.

I open my mouth for you

to snap its tendrils.
